Kim Jong (Really Really) Ill

And the Leader of North Korea is so Ill that he is dead. At the age of 69, it is a 51 point score for Corpse with No Name who also adds the "Last Blood" Bonus and is in 7th place with 71 points. Nice pick up guys.

Updated Scoring! Yay

So I have finally updated the scoring. And it is going to be close especially since I am challenging 3 deaths this year to provide evidence that they appeared in the AP Obit Page. Scoring on the side bar reflects the new leader board and is up to date.

iDead: the Steve Jobs Story

Don't know which is the bigger death this year Winehouse or Jobs? Winehouse was younger and scored more points but Jobs was way more famous... I guess its a personal choice, now go pay tribute to jobs and buy an iphone 4s. Wait. 4s? The guy dies and you can't even launch an iphone 5? that is weak apple.

The 27 Club & Ms. Winehouse

In my year+ of curating this beacon of deathly excellence that is the dead league blog I believe Ms. Winehouse wins for the youngest person to score points. At 27 years old she is the latest member of the "27 club" who all obviously would have been 1st round draft choices in our twisted game. The list includes Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain & Freaky Tah of the rap group Lost Boyz. Congrats to Cremation Nation who jumps from 4th to first on the back of his 6th round pick Ms. Winehouse. Condolences go out to all the teams that dropped Ms. Winehouse in the past 4 years including Dead Presidents (last 2 years), Get Got (under a previous owner 3 years ago) and Happy enTrails 4 years ago before I bought my stake in the franchise. They tried to make her go to rehab.... I bet they are now reconsidering their intervention skillz.

Betty Ford

So Ol'Betty there was a looker back in the day huh? Well I'm using and adjusted scale that gives bonus points for it being 1950 or somewhere in that range and also I'm taking her in the vacuum of first ladies. Think about it, she is way hotter than Martha Washington... just saying. Anyway Mrs. Ford was 93 at her timely demise and scores 27 points for Cixx the Bucket. She was a keeper, so well played. This post will also be the final resting place for several "lesser" deaths/scores;

July 4th Otto von Habsburg - crown prince of Austria Hungry 98 scores 22 points for the Erethral Spirits

Laura Lynn Ryan - former first lady of Illinois (did she sell a senate seat?) 76 years old died 6/27/2011 scores 44 points for Davey Jones Locker

Peter Falk 83 died on 6/23 and scores 37 points for Cixx the Bucket... I had to look him up evidently he was the star of a hit tv show from before I was born, god he was old.

James Arness - 6/3/2011 played some cowboy on tv on shows before I was born he was 88 and scores 32 points for Bloody Mary and they also get a blood bath bonus with Jack Kavorkian and Cixx the Buckett of 25 points each.

Assist (ed)

Dr. Death is dead. I was always confused about the nick name "Dr. Death", is he caring for death? is he Deaths' primary care physician? who carries Deaths insurance? MetLife? Is that Snoopy commercial subversively evil? Yes. Dr. Jack Kavorkian has passed at age 83 and is a nice 37 point pick up for Cix the Bucket (if i was a betting man I would have guessed Abe Vigoda would have died first but shows what I know). Dr. Death is dead

Kill(ed)ebrew

Harmon Killebrew was killed by cancer the other day.... and everyone in the Dead League morns the fact that he went undrafted. I put this on you Dead Leaguers how did we miss the fact that he had cancer in our research. Your better than that.

Seve Seve Seve...

A Long walk up the 18th fairway of life for Mr. Seve Ballesteros a 5x major champion in golf. At age 54 he was a nice score for team Stiff Competition with a point total of 66 they are moving up the leader board. Maybe we should get a green jacket for this little competition...or a black one, but everyone has a black sport coat? Maybe we could get a kick ass logo on it. That is your challenge loyal readers, design a kick ass black sport coat for the winner of the dead league.

Dear Bin Laden....

I hope Sadam has kept your seat warmer than it should be.

To all the fans of our blog, I am not going to dignify this man with his picture on this website. For the past 3 years he has gone undrafted on purpose do to our belief that even if he was killed we may never know or have actual confirmation about the death. Therefore no team will be claiming points, which in this sites first piece of introspection, seems appropriate that no one but the families of his victims get solace out of this event.

#Winning the Election in the Sky...Duhh

So no one scores on the passing of Geraldine Ferraro which is a little sad, here at The Dead League we like to celebrate the lives of recently departed "celebrities." So it is with heavy hearts that we do not get to do so with Ms. Ferraro...wait this is a blog and we do what we want. No one scores but we will still have some fun, why could she not have run as VP for Gerald Ford? Gerald & Geraldine? best campaign stickers ever, people wouldn't know if it was an election for president, a cheesy 70's sitcom or a cheesy 70's porn which is fantastic. Actually can some one make either the sitcom or the porn we would enjoy either or both.... ok that is enough.

Some House Cleaning Deaths

In the past month, seeing this is not our full time job at The Dead League, we have missed a few "under the radar" deaths. We apologizes to the families of these people as their pictures will not be posted here, however the scoring has been updated to reflect these deaths. In order of passing;

Bruce Gordon - American Actor from TV's "The Untouchables"

Gordon Murray - Wall St. Banker/ Author died of Brain Cancer

Eunice Sanborn - Former Oldest Living American @ 114 years

scoring for these got a wee bit complicated as some qualified for blood baths and others for two in a row bonuses.

Cleopatra is Dead

And perhaps our most famous death of 2011 so far is Elizabeth Taylor, the "Mother of Survival." I bet she is eating those words now. Taylor 79 is a nice return with 41 points for Living in Oblivion as well as a bloodbath bonus for the death of Pinetop Perkins as well, that is an extra 25 points.

So Long Pinetop...

I don't believe there will ever be another Pinetop Perkins, mostly because children generally are not named "Pinetop." However a google search revealed that we have lost possibly the last "great pre-WWII" jazz musician. Can we agree that we are close to losing anyone who lived "pre-WWII" ? Anyway team Dead Presidents in now on the board with a score of 23 for this death.

So Long Frank Buckles...

He is off to the big trench in the sky, gas mask and all. As the last surviving veteran of WWI, Frank was remembered as lying to get into the military at age 16. Good for him, and good for Bloody Mary, who scores a whopping 10 points. However it may be a sign that the draft stategey of selecting all Geezers might pay off this year after years of failure.

Workout of Death; RIP Jack Lalane

For the first time in 2 years Dead Presidents gets on the scoreboard with the passing of Jack Lalane at age 96. Mr. Lalane is worth a grand total of 24 points which puts the Presidents solidly in 5th place in the busy first month of Death.

Happy Belated Death to Gerry Rafferty

Looks like the Rock and Roll lifestyle caught up with Mr. Rafferty and now he is "Stuck in the Middle With Liver Failure and Death." He was a 57 point score for Creamation Nation bumping him up the standings. Sorry didn't catch this one fast enough as it happened on the 4th of Jan.

Srg Shriver Rest in Peace Corp

RIP Sargent Shriver, driving force behind the creation of the Peace Corp and the first score of the year for Vitae Brevis. At 95 years young the Sarge is worth 25 deadpool points putting Vitae Brevis in 3rd place.

Hail Mary for the Bishop of Portsmouth

WE say goodbye to the 8th Anglican Bishop of Portsmouth and Davey Bones Locker says hello to 59 points and takes second place in the scoring.

And we have First Blood

Sorry for my delay in posting this but first blood came on day 2 of the new year... Anne Francis picked up the points for Living in Oblivion... that is 25 points for first blood bonus plus the 40 points in scoring. Well played...
